This is set of 3 canister sets from the 1960's with roosters. They are Japanese made and are solid wood. They have been upcycled to a modern day theme.
I found them in my local Habitat for Humanity Restore, someone had tried to "preserve them", (I'll use that term loosely), by pouring varnish on them. There was literally dried "pools" of varnish that had yellowed over the years sitting in the concave circles on the lids. I had to slow sand that all away and sand off the the mess they'd done to the out sides of the boxes. There was no way I could preserve the original art.
Once they were free of all varnish, I bleach cleaned them in and out, wood glued and pressed their broken and water damaged bottoms back together and re-attached them.
Then I hand painted them with beautiful bring colors in a bohemian style and added floral and bird appliques. The finishing touches are the blingy glass rose shaped knobs in pink and the gold studs that wrap the boxes like a belt. They are the perfect pop of fun bohemian color and style.
They are somewhere around 60 years old and there are some stains to the insides that cannot be removed, however, they are so clean they smell like clean wood.
The largest box measures 10" high (including the knob) x 7" wide by 6" deep (front to back) inside depth is 7.75"
The medium box measures 9" high (including the knob) x 6" wide by 5.5" deep (front to back) inside depth is 6.75"
The smallest box measures 8" high (including the knob) x 5.5" wide by 4.75" deep (front to back) inside depth is 4.75 "
